Applications


The problem with sedimentation of activated sludge in secondary settling tanks can occur only periodically or throughout the year. The cause may be, for example, overloading with a load of pollutants, sticky swelling associated with the mass appearance of mucous bacteria, or filamentous swelling caused by excessive growth of filamentous bacteria. Commonly used coagulants are not always sufficient to improve sedimentation, therefore, when it is necessary to immediately improve sludge settling, a natural group of DuoBent aluminosilicate mixtures comes in.

DuoBent F500 is dedicated to treatment plants over 100,000 P.E., struggling with the problems of activated sludge sedimentation, the inflow of surfactants, which significantly contribute to the formation of foam on the surface of biological chambers. In recent years, a change in the characteristics of domestic sewage has been observed, including larger inflows of sewage rich in surfactants, especially non-ionic ones, which are more difficult to biodegrade in treatment processes. This group includes the most popular and at the same time the most aggressive SPC compounds, such as SLES, SDS or LAS.

These types of sewage treatment plants, as recipients of sewage for large agglomerations, have a larger inflow of pollutants, including those from various industries. Occurrence of periodic problems with sedimentation of activated sludge may occur for several operational reasons, such as, for example, overloading with a load of pollutants, increased temporary inflow of sewage or rainwater (hydraulic overloading), receiving sewage of the so-called campaign costs, capacity limitations of the treatment plant or modernization works currently in progress.

Experiences from wastewater treatment plants show that DuoBent F500 may also prove to be an effective tool for facilities receiving wastewater in tourist destinations, which receive large loads of pollutants in a relatively short time or periodically throughout the year. Often, biological systems designed for a particular capacity only for the surrounding towns are not adapted to receive increased inflows, even temporarily.
